Otherwise Residency 2026
Art-Science Residency on Environmental Themes
February - November 2026, Romania
Second edition of the art-science research residency program, developed in collaboration with the Institute of Biology Bucharest and 2Celsius. Connecting artists and specialists in scientific research, pollution monitoring and environmental policy, this round of the program proposes three explorations or reimaginings of the ways in which we relate to otherness and the non-human.
The residency starts from three research projects, each addressing a distinct facet of the ecological crisis, serving as both starting points and a framework for transdisciplinary collaboration:
Residency team: Sabina Suru (curator), Andrei Tudose (art–science consultant), Dr. Roxana Nicoară (art–science mediator), Anna Dumitriu, Dominika Glogowski, Alexandra Costea (artists in residence), Dr. Alexandra Ciocan, Dr. Cristina Moisescu, Dr. Ana Zamfirescu, Mihai Stoica, Théophile Humann-Guilleminot (researchers and environmental policy consultants).
Parteners: Institute of Biology Bucharest, 2Celsius, Atelier 35, Zile și Nopți
Mulțumiri: Clean Air Task Force, Radio Guerrilla
Otherwise Residency 2026 is co-financed by the Administration of the National Cultural Fund - AFCN.
The project does not necessarily represent the position of The Administration of the National Cultural Fund. AFCN is not responsible for the content of the project or the manner in which the results of the project may be used. These are entirely the responsibility of the funding recipient.

- Secondary metabolic modifications in callus cultures of Cotinus coggygria (smoketree) and Leontopodium alpinum (edelweiss) under the action of abiotic stress
- Isolation and functional characterization of new strains of microalgae with biotechnological potential
- Fugitive methane emissions from industrial sites in Romania
