In this episode of Science Nation, host Sorin Badea (Radio Guerrilla) calls Andrei Tudose (Marginal.ro, art–science consultant) during a methane hunting field expedition between Ploiești and Târgu Jiu, in the framework of Otherwise Residency. Traveling in a van alongside resident artist Dominika Glogowski (AT / PL) and other artists, researchers, environmentalists, and engineers, Andrei describes their mission: locating hidden methane leaks around oil and gas infrastructure.
Because methane is an invisible, odorless greenhouse gas—20 times more potent than carbon dioxide—the team uses specialized a thermal camera cooled to -50°C and aerial flyovers (conducted by INCDAS) to detect massive plumes, such as one recently discovered near Târgoviște.
