SoMe Festival Official Selection

Dear friends everywhere,

We started our, earlier this year, with the idea of making a film(ish) festival, that wouldn’t hold in high regard some of the essential elements of a film festival – stuff like presenting a film in premiere, or sitting down in a nice, quiet and protected room to watch a film and move on with our lives soon after the credits.

We wanted a structure that brings people together, something that would maybe even remind us that the city we live in is more than a set of streets, unknown faces and late buses. We wanted to break a few rules in such a way that it would open opportunities and dialogue, it would show works that were not made for a big screen film festival, but rather out of the wish of sharing a fleeing thought, a gentle feeling or a strong opinion on our more-than-human surroundings, our (often disregarded) habitat.

That is how the SoMe Festival appeared. We planned a small and fun network of 33 short video pieces (we figured 1-10 mins is a wide enough time-spectrum) that would be spread throughout our city of Bucharest, visible through augmented reality in 33 locations of all shapes and sizes. And we let the idea loose into the universe, and the universe answered back in a loud voice, showing us so many different views on the many inhabitants that form our world.

We want to take this opportunity (sorry for the sudden official tone) to thank and smile towards all the people who took the time to apply to our open call – we received so many applications from 19 countries around the globe! Really, thank you all, it was lovely for us to spend a bit of time with your works and thoughts!
