Marginal is a cultural research infrastructure supporting artistic research, critical experimentation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. We do our work where contemporary culture intersects with science, technology, ecology, and social transformation - we create conditions in which new forms of knowledge can emerge, manifest, and circulate. When methods are shared, collaborations generate continuity. When accessibility and understanding are more important than distance and prestige, public culture can become a site of inquiry rather than consumption.

Marginal operates as a platform for collaboration between artists, researchers, cultural workers, and communities who seek rigorous yet unconventional approaches to urgent questions around the natural and non-natural worlds, and the realities in-between, that we inhabit.

Based in Romania and connected internationally, Marginal cultivates long-term relationships across disciplines, generations, and geographies, prioritizing long-term inquiry over short-term production, and documented processes over isolated outputs. We believe experimentation requires both freedom and structure: space to test ideas, and the support systems that allow those ideas to travel, evolve, and remain publicly relevant.
