Noduri (Knots) is an artistic project that activates urban gardens in Bucharest, investigating the relationship between man and the natural environment, organised by the Developing Art NGO, in a multimedia approach that combines photography, video and sound, with performative ritual practices.
The project aims at constructing a speculative context that encourages a process of redefinition of the relations between man and nature, between man and the public space, through an artistic process that exposes the inhabitants of the city of Bucharest to sensory experiences and generates new perspectives on the daily interactions that they we have with the natural spaces embedded in the urban environment. Alina Ușurelu (artistic director and performer), Sabina Suru & Andrei Tudose (multimedia artist-duo) and Lala Misosniki (sound), together with Irina Bobei, Irina Botea, Claudiu Cobilanschi and Floriama Candea, propose interactive performances based on bodily, meditative practices and performative structures of interaction with plants, in which the public is invited to participate, followed by artist talks based on the researches of the invited artists and informal discussions with the public.
VAGon hosted the final event of the project, inviting the public to navigate a multimedia installation made by the duo Sabina Suru (image) & Andrei Tudose (sound design), in collaboration with EZA (Alina Ușurelu / movement).
Sabina Suru & Andrei Tudose are a duo working at the border between art, social sciences and technology. Their research and artistic activity over the last three years aims at transdisciplinary collaborative approaches that include scientists and experts from various fields, as well as engaging the public in a performative or inclusive manner. Their projects question and recontextualize the way we see and perceive the accumulation of realities we live in and the identities we internalise. As such, they address current issues related to privacy & surveillance in the digital(ized) world, identity, objectification and agency. Their works are emotional activators that create an interactive and experiential space.
EZA (Alina Ușurelu) is a multimedia artist. She uses image, the body and words to open the audience to worlds that they don’t always want to see. In 2014, she started working with photography and joined the contemporary dance community. In 2016 she made the short film Up Stairs, continuing with transdisciplinary projects such as: Exposing Movement, Don’t take it personally, See You Soon and Don’t Bite Your Tongue. In 2019, she participated in an intensive training program in performing arts in Lisbon and started working in international cultural projects and residency programs as a performer, visual artist or artistic director.
NODURI is a project of the Developing Art NGO in collaboration with VAGon – In(inter)disciplined Space, co-financed by the City Hall through ARCUB within the Affective Bucharest 2022 program.
